Green Legs

Swimmer painting is finished! I called it green legs because I like the way colours change under water. The deeper you go, first you lose the reds, then the oranges and yellow. You get green legs and blue feet.

Green Index
When spring is coming, I can’t wait until the leaves grow on the trees and the world gets greener at last! Can you measure the amount of green on the trees?
For this we have the green-index (or the Brink-index, from its inventor Frank Brink) It’s very easy. 0% is no leaves at all, 100 % is maximum leaves.
This small animation I made because today when I look out the window the green-index is 0, and I can’t wait until it gets to even 1 % .

Chocolate delight

This chocolate pastry was a monumental piece of art in itself. I tried to capture that on a tiny canvas (13 x15 cm), keeping the background colours soft and directing all the attention to the white piece of chocolate on top of this small building of dark chocolate delight.
The pastry was bought at Patisserie Kuyt in Amsterdam.

This winter I made a lot of small pastry paintings, starring one or two pastries or objects.
As a variation I made this bigger painting of a tea and cake party with the afternoon light coming trough the window.

Swimmer painting
Studio
This week I started again on a swimmer painting. This is a theme I like a lot, there’s something about swimmers and water. I like the way the sunlight moves in the water and how bodies get strange shapes and colours under water, the feeling of summer and warm weather. I try to capture that in oil paint. It takes a lot of layers of paint to get the right feeling. In contrast to painting a small still life of a pastry which I normally finish before decay starts in, it can take a long time to finish a swimmer painting, as the layers have to dry before I can paint the next.
This technique is called glazing. I will write about it in a next blog
The one I’m working on now has been standing for about a year half finished in my studio. I got wrapped up in other subjects and things, but I can always return to a swimmer painting.

Nieuwe website
Weer een nieuwe website! Want ik wil graag een blog bijhouden, niet per se met tekst maar met nieuwe schilderijen en animaties die ik maak.
Bovendien is ‘personal branden’ tegenwoordig helemaal in en moet je een ’social media strategie’ hebben. Wat eigenlijk gewoon betekent dat het leuk is voor de bezoekers van je site dat er af en toe iets veranderd. En dat ze daarop kunnen reageren.
Dat kon niet met de oude website. Voor deze nieuwe heb ik voor het programma WordPress gekozen, omdat het erg veel mogelijkheden heeft. Iedereen kan reageren en er zijn talloze plugins en widgets om uit te breiden (en het is gratis).
Inmiddels heb ik natuurlijk ook een facebook-pagina , naast een twitter- flickr- en een vimeo-account. Dat moet toch aan elkaar geknoopt kunnen worden, dacht ik, zodat ik niet de hele tijd alles overal moet updaten en uploaden.
Het doel is het zo te maken als onderstaand plaatje:

De stippellijntjes zijn de updates die automatisch gaan, de doorgetrokken lijnen wat ik zelf aanpas.
Vanaf mijn computer thuis of iphone stuur ik nieuwe blogs naar de website.
Nieuwe fotos stuur ik vanaf computer of iphone naar flickr, die het automatisch op de site zet. De videos maak ik allemaal op mijn computer dus die stuur ik van daar naar vimeo, die het dan weer plaatst op de site. De blog zelf wordt automatisch doorgegeven aan facebook en twitter en de rest van de wereld.
Of het allemaal werkt moeten we afwachten. Slimme tips zijn altijd welkom!
